Vance Overall's the am at Steel Creek!!
What an awesome weekend for racing at Round 3 of the 2013 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country Series at Steele Creek Campground in Morganton, NC.
On Thursday before the race, the track actually got some snow, however, it melted and soaked into the ground for some perfect racing conditions over the weekend of April 6-7. The weather was a mild 55 degrees and partly cloudy on Sunday morning as I headed to the starting line with the other 600 riders in the 2 hour AM race.
I got the jump on most of the riders in my class thanks to my Vee Rubber Tires and Rekluse Auto Clutch and headed into the woods in thirs place. I quickly moved into second where I was able to puch at a pretty comfortable pace. Around the 5 mile marker, I was able to take the lead and held on to 1st place for the remainder of the race.
The track got pretty rough and choppy towards te end of the race, however, my FTI suspension and Flexx Handlebars soaked up everthing that was thrown at me. My Upstate Cycle Husqvarna, Ride PG, TXC 310 worked flawlessly throughout the day on the 10 mile track with my G2 handguards clearing the way.
The most difficult part throughout the race was getting through all of the lap riders without mistakes. I managed to make it through unscathed and obtained my goal of 1st in class and 1st Overall. This put me on the overall podium for the 3rd time this year.
Thank you so much to all my sponsors, I couldn't do it without all your help and support.
